The Shred Head

Above is a marker and Photoshop test to add to the TMNT piece I am working on now.  I did the marker portion to practice my marker skills for my Upper Deck assignment that I am currently working on. I've done marker drawings with simple blank backgrounds (i.e. Nova) and color backgrounds (i.e. Batman vs. Captain America) and I wanted to see if I could make a photoshop background that would help make the image pop as well. Integrating original art and computer art can make for some powerful art. I hope to show those cards for Upper Deck to you before the end of the month!

I've always enjoyed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever since I was a kid, and thoroughly enjoyed the TMNT animated movie. I enjoyed it so much so that I did the drawing below inspired by the show! When exhibiting it at comic con's, it always got a smile out of people, children and adult alike. For that reason I've begun doing a full illustration based on these fun guys.

Since I'll be at the Baltimore Comic Con September 7th-8th, I want to have something new for that and will have that TMNT piece, in black and white at the very least, for visual consumption=]

Magneto Vs Phoenix

I have begun the process of doing more artwork by hand as apposed to relying on the computer for my coloring and this is another example of that.  is is a piece I did on two sketch cards, each sized at 2.5 x 3.5 for a total of 3.5 x 5.

As I look at this I wonder what it may look like as a digitally edited 11x17 print.  I may end up touching this up ;-) Stay tuned!

The Red Skull!

The main villain in the Captain America movie was the Red Skull.  I've always refrained from ever wanting to draw him simply because I had a problem recreating a character that came from so much hate (he was suppose to be a large player in the Nazi party). I was finally able to get over it and enjoyed the fact that he was going to get his face punched out.  The design for the Hydra leader of World World 2 was extremely well done.  He finally felt imposing and less of a joke to me and I enjoyed recreating him with a dramatic exaltation to attaining the Cosmic Cube (the tesseract from the movies).

It would be interesting to see the Red Skull be the minor villain to lead up to Thanos in part 2 of Avengers.

Thanos, the Mad Titan

I am in the process of trying to get back to doing traditional media art and am proud to say this was completely done by hand. I have a fine arts background as well as wanting to do the commercial, comic styled art, so revisiting this style was very reinvigorating.  I am not even close to where I want to be, but I am happy with the result..... Below is the finished piece..... now back to more practice!
