Norrin Radd, The Silver Surfer

I wanted to color/finish the Galactus piece I did back in 09.  It's been a pretty well received image of late, and in thinking about how I would handle it. I realized I've never created a solo Silver Surfer piece, so that coupled with Illustrious Bits calling for the Surfer to be the subject of their weekly sketch helped inspire this.  Hope you dig it=]

I really hope Marvel brings him back into the comics....

Princess Diana, Wonder Woman

I use to draw Wonder Woman once a week and have her presented on Wednesdays to practice my ability to draw women. I have struggled with drawing them too masculine in the past and am still working toward making them more elegant, more delicate but strong at the same time. Wonder Woman is a perfect character to practice that with and look forward to the day I can draw her with the ease that I have with men.

Here is my latest celebration of the character.

The Red Skull!

The main villain in the Captain America movie was the Red Skull.  I've always refrained from ever wanting to draw him simply because I had a problem recreating a character that came from so much hate (he was suppose to be a large player in the Nazi party). I was finally able to get over it and enjoyed the fact that he was going to get his face punched out.  The design for the Hydra leader of World World 2 was extremely well done.  He finally felt imposing and less of a joke to me and I enjoyed recreating him with a dramatic exaltation to attaining the Cosmic Cube (the tesseract from the movies).

It would be interesting to see the Red Skull be the minor villain to lead up to Thanos in part 2 of Avengers.

Spider-man Vs. The Sinister Six

I am happy to share this drawing with you all in the wake of Amazing Spider-man #700 and Superior Spider-man #1. I found it to be pretty funny that the first villain Spider-man faces is a new Sinister Six, as apposed to a group trying to name itself the Sinister Syndicate, and that they were so easily defeated. To Spidey's credit, he did bump up his crime fighting tactics as well so I can't be mad at that.

Here you see the inks to the piece, done as a composite since I did this in my sketcbook.

Here you can see how I added Venom to the piece.  I wasn't sure whether I wanted The Lizard or Venom in this piece since I like both characters.  Venom turned out to be a better choice, since the bottom of the piece already had 4 characters wearing green=]

Jack Frost

Every once in a while I am asked to do portraits or combinations of someones face with a specific character. This is another example of that being done.  The woman who asked for this had me use her nephews face as a reference. She then wanted me to use that reference in combination with the original character and create an illustration from the two.  After seeing the movie "Rise of The Guardians" from which this is based on, I figured having Jack Frost engaging some of the constructs that he fights was a good way to show some action.

Here are the inks for the original drawing.  After presenting the colors, I was asked to soften up the jawline and make the eyes larger in order to make the face look more youthful.

Happy Holidays!

This time of year, with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, I really appreciate the opportunity to take some time off, and reflect. I can have the time to regroup and think about how the next year needs to be handled, as well as spending some time with people I don't always get a chance to see.

Hopefully this holiday season, you've been able to find what you've needed, even if it was right in front of your face, or if it took a journey for you to get what you need.  Happy holidays!

Bleez Vs. Morrigan

I love mash ups!  I think it all started when I use to see the Superfriends, and how excited I was seeing all of my favorite superheroes together at one time.  From there I'd hear collaborations between hip-hop artists and that'd get me even more hype to draw or write my own rhymes and it just continued from there.

I have been trying to do things different and working with traditional media is one of those different things.  Below is the full painting I did with watercolors after applying a greytone to the image. Above is the finished product taken straight from the inks, brought into Photoshop CS5 and colored that way.

And here we have the inks straight from my sketchbook
