BONE!

When I was working with kids, I was introduced to Bone more intimately.  I never enjoyed black and white comics, but their library within the school had colored versions of these stories.  With the color I was able to thoroughly enjoy the stories and art that Jeff Smith brought to the table.  It's inspired me in many ways and this was an image I produced to pull out the feelings I get when reading this fun, thrilling, adventurous book!

Elmo?!

I use to work with kids and during a vacation day program, I was asked to draw Elmo for them to color, so this was my contribution to the kiddies=] I plan on doing Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird one day..... One day.....

Iron Man Extremis 2.0

Iron Man's Extremis armor is a pretty tough armor to illustrate.  I generally have to understand what I am drawing before I tackle it and for some reason i can't wrap my head around this armor.  this was the second time I ended up drawing him.  The first two images are my complete workings of the character. the image below is colored by Doug Stevens who has a profile up at http://bdstevens.deviantart.com

I really want to get more comfortable drawing Iron Man but I think I will do so in the context of drawing him with the Avengers when I do draw him.

Galore is a catering company who focuses on doing catering with a home cooked feel.  There are no processed foods involved, no frozen products either, everything they do is fresh, organic, and with support for farms who are local.  With those things in mind, we created a logo that had a connection to the home cooked feel with the wood representing a cutting board, and a ripe tomato to represent the freshness associated with their catering.  The fork represents the readiness of the food due to how hungry their food will make you.

I am really proud of how this turned out and look forward to doing more.

JLU.....

This JLU (Justice League Unlimited, the animated series) lineup is the most powerful, and the most interesting in my opinion.  Having two women and at least one man who isn't Caucasian (even though there are three alien's on the team) helps to bring something different to the table than the typical scenarios.

I am really loving how The Flash is being drawn now so I took advantage of that and ran with his effect! I look forward to redoing this lineup to be up to date with the new 52.  Stay tuned!

The Flash

I have always wanted to draw the Flash..... He has one of the coolest abilities and his costume is so simple..... could you imagine if you were the smart guy who created him? I got the design for the energy in this piece from Ethan Van Sciver who did the Flash: Rebirth storyline, and the display of energy from an illustration by Jamal Igle. This was another fun illustration for me.

My First Interview

This is me at the 2011 Big Apple Comic Con.  I am being interviewed by Mike from Silver Cheese and it's my first recorded interview that I have ever seen=] Good lord there is so much to learn from seeing yourself make a fool of yourself =] Enjoy
THE GRAND FINALE!!!!! Goku of Dragon Ball Z VS. Superman of the DC Universe!!!!! Wouldn't you pay to watch this episode?! Yea man, I would, I don't care if it took 40 minutes to finish!  Back in 2007, Wizard Magazine did an article about the characters from the East going against the characters from the West and the cover image was this fight.  I wanted to try my own hand at it and did an illustration back then. 5 years later I felt I needed to do a new version updating the drawing, and updating my skills.  This is the byproduct.  I hope you enjoy=]

The Ghost Rider Ninja

I attended the Wizard Philly Comic Con and landed this commission to draw Ghost Rider on the client's Kawasaki Ninja.  It was cool drawing Ghost Rider for the first time since I was a kid.  I had just gotten a new skull too so that made me even more hype to do this piece!

The Guardians of Light

Each member in this image represents a different powerset within the emotional spectrum.  It is said in the DC Universe (where Superman and Batman are from) that there is power that is derived from emotions. Clockwise starting from 12 o'clock, Indigo-1 (Compassion), Larfleeze (Greed), Star Sapphire (Love), Atrocitus (Rage), Hal Jordan (Willpower), Saint Walker (Hope), and Sinestro (Fear). Willpower is central because without it the other emotions aren't as potent.  Hope empowers each emotion so much, especially willpower, that it can bring the power of it's partners up beyond it's threshold without damaging their emotional partner.

This was one of my first group shots as an illustration, and I learned a great deal working on this.

Iron Man Extremis

This is my first attempt at drawing Iron Man since I was a kid and big shout out to Adi Granov for designing this suit.... its a bit complicated but so damn sleek and practical.  I want to draw it more, but he's in a new armor already...sad faces abound.

Here are the pencils and inks for this piece.

Portraiture

I come from a fine arts background, my teachers did not teach me about commercialism at all. The were very much so against it actually.  Because of this I was lucky to get to draw a lot of models and was encouraged to use myself as a model.  I wish they would have melded the two together but thats another story entirely.

Below are an attempts on my part to become a better artist by drawing random different people from photographs.  Gil Scott Heron had just died and I wanted to pay my respects to him through this exercise.  I am pretty happy with every piece I did but as always see room for improvement=] The last image is of my Lady and that pretty much is the culmination of my growth through this project.  I hope to have another round of these in the future=]

PowerGirl

I am always trying to get better as an artist so I decided to copy someone who i thought had mastered the art of drawing sexy women, Amanda Conner.  Her Powergirl drawing that is the cover that I copied had a VERY sexy yet playful vibe, so I tried to copy her energy.

I generally color my own work but lately have been trying my hand at commissioning colorists to lay they colors over my work and David Delanty turned my drawing into a beautiful illustration.  You can find his work at http://vest.deviantart.com to see more!
